South Africa
History-
One important person in South Africa is Nelson Mandela. He
was a prisoner for 27 years because he fought for people’s rights. The people
in government did not like that Nelson fought for people’s rights and they sent
him to jail. He stayed in jail for 27 years. While he was in jail, a person
tried to get him out but wasn’t able to. After he finally got out of jail, he
became president of South Africa. This was important because it was the first
mixed color president that had been there. Because of him, people were treated
better and there were no more separated people.
An important
event happened in 2010 was the World Cup in soccer. This was important
because it was a first time that a lot of people came to see the World Cup in
soccer. Many people from many countries came to visit South Africa.
An outside country that has hurt South Africa is England. It
was a colony that belonged to that country. The way it hurt South Africa is
that the British took slaves from there and that separated many families.
Geography-
The countries that border South Africa are Madagascar,
Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Swaziland. On the other sides, South
Africa touches The South Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.
South Africa has 3 capitals. Their names are Cape Town, Pretoria,
and Bloemfontein.

Climate:
The climate in South Africa is very interesting. It is
surrounded on 3 sides by the South Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It is
rainy and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the summer. Also the climate in
the winter is warm during the day and cool during the night. With special weather, people in South Africa
grow grapes for wine making.
Religions
in South Africa-
About 80 percent of the people in South Africa believe in
Christianity. The rest believe in other religions.
One of the
famous holidays that are celebrated in South Africa is Mandela Day on July 18. On this day people
spend 67 minutes helping their community to remember Mandela’s number of years
that he helped people.
Another famous holiday is Freedom day that is celebrated on
April 27. On this date in 1994, people were allowed to vote and it did not
matter if they were black or white.
